Katie Torpey is an award-winning Screenwriter / TV Writer and Filmmaker with a BA in English Literature and a MFA in Screenwriting from UCLA School of Film and Television. She has sold and optioned numerous screenplays and TV shows, worked for countless studios and networks including Fox, ABC, Disney, Saban, Universal, NBC, CBS and taught writing too students for over 15 years.
Her original comedy screenplay, The Perfect Man was released in theaters in June 2005 starring Hilary Duff, Heather Locklear (Melrose Place) and Chris Noth (Sex in the City, Law and Order). The following year, her hit romantic comedy, On the Other Side starring Manish Dayal (The Resident) was a hit in theaters in Bollywood. It had been shot on location in India and simultaneously in two languages. She wrote and directed the independent film Truth About Kerry shot in Ireland starring Stana Katic (Castle), which was released in April 2011. She won best scriptwriter for the film at the 2010 LA Femme Film Festival. Katie is also a ghostwriter and had a book published by Hachette Book Group in 2017.
In the television world, Katie co-created and wrote Mother Up! an animated comedy TV series starring Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives). It was one of Hulu’s first original TV shows and premiered on Hulu and City TV in Canada in 2013 and ran for 13 episodes. She was a Head Staff Writer for the Disney / Saban TV show Power Rangers Wildforce, the #1 live-action children’s show in the world at the time. She was a Writer & Producer for the hour-long pop culture TV show Close Up on the TV Guide Channel, and started out her TV career working at the TV show America’s Most Wanted. At AMW, she developed content, researched cases, executed fugitive case files and worked directly with producers and Local & Federal Law Enforcement, helping to capture over 30 fugitives.
Katie is a member of the Writer's Guild of America, The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, The Irish Film and Television Academy and Women in Film. She is also an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Tampa.
